1. Hello Jani, how’s it going? Seems like a busy period of time, lots of gigs. Everything ok?
Yes bro, everything perfect! It’s summer - travelling and DJing, can’t complain!
2. I’d like to start with a little something about your musical roots. What’s your history as a listener, producer and DJ and especially, what got you into dubstep?
Many things brought me into dubstep. Some people might know I used to produce jungle/dnb back inna days. So my roots always been in bass music. 1999/2000 one of my friends introduced me into garage, and i’d say that was first push into dubstep.
3. You come from a country with some pretty talented dubstep producers and DJs. How’s the scene developing in Finland?
It’s really good in 2008. We’be workin hard to make things happen. We spent lots of time, energy and money to get things rolling. And in the end it’s because everyone who’s involved doing it love for the music.
4. Bassoradio is one of the few non-dedicated radio stations that’s promoting dubstep worldwide. What’s your connection with this station? Did it play a specific role in your ascension as a DJ?
I’ve been DJing 10 years now. So Bassoradio didn’t have anytin’ to do with that I’m DJing. But Bassoradio helped dubstep to get “well-known” in Finland. I’ve been involved in Bassoradio since it’s beginning when it was still a piratestation!
5. From all the labels you released tunes with, is there a specific one where you felt “at home”? We know you started your own Tes La Rok label too.
I started Noppa Recordings, so that’s kinda my home. But one I really feel like a family is Argon Recordings and Dub Police. They both great!
6. Your “Round the World Girls” remix went literally round the world, in Romania at least it’s still a very well recieved tune. What’s the story of your collaboration with Uncle Sam? Your styles really seem to get along.
Pretty lame. We hooked up in myspace ages ago! Big up myspace massive!
7. Do you have a favourite producer or some favourite producers at this time?
Too many. I really like what Caspa is doing. I really like Headhunter! L.D. new tunes are banging as well! Mala always my fave. And up & coming guys I recommend to keep an eye on Late and Desto.
8. If you were to choose one of the many dubstep sounds on the scene right now (the technoid Bristol sound, the jumpy South London style, the dark Ultrablack / Babylon System sound and so on), which one would you choose?
All of them! That’s what makes it dubstep. Minds open for all different sounds. As a DJ I mix’n'blend different styles. That’s why I really respect Chef, he keeps selection so wide! Not to mention mixing skills.
9. Over the last 2-3 years dubstep has been hugely promoted all over the world. In your personal opinion, is it a good thing or a bad thing for a scene, let’s face it, still small?
As you said it’s been promoted hugely. So it’s just good! People spend lots of time, energy and money worldwide to make it happen. Big up everyone involved! Nothing happens itself, there always needs to be people with vision, excitment and energy to push it forward. From DJ’s to promoters.
10. Any future projects you’d like to tell us something about?
Well I try to start workin’ on my first dubstep album, but who knows when it happens! Got lots of remixes forthcoming, and future Noppa releases! 003 both sides mine, 004 Late and Desto!
11. Anything you’d like to share with the Romanian massive? A word of wisdom?
Keep pushing it forward!
12. Thank you for your time, good luck and all the best!
Big up!
